Subdomain problems

posted Sep 05, 2010 17:00:41 by Chris-Jarvis
Is anyone else having problems with their subdomains? I can create them and use importbuddy to restore the site, but I get an internal server error when trying to access it. If I delete the .htaccess file it seems to work, but then I cant log on to my root site. I am using a hostgator reseller account. Something appears to be wrong with the .htaccess file. Anyone run across this?

I haven't gotten to that part yet. Have you contacted Hostgator?

I don't think it is a hostgator issue. It appears to be a wordpress problem. I opened a support ticket, but since it is a holiday weekend I may not here anything until Tuesday.

I would still go through Hostgator in the meantime.

I was able to fix it by editing the database. For some reason the URL in general settings was changed. Must have been something I did.

I have asimilair problem in that I created a subdomain and cloned site but now if I try to log into my Master site admin the browser redirects to the subdomain admin. So I am unable to acces the master site admin. I asked Bill about it during the webinar and he seemed to be aware of the problem and they where working on a fix which would be posted but nothing yet.

Anyone know of a fix?

Here is what I did. I went to myphpadmin in control panel and opened the database. You need to find the wp_options table and edit the siteurl field. You will notice it is set to subdomain.root.com. Change it to your root domain. Then you can log into wp-admin on the root domian and go to general->settings and make sure the url's point to your root domain.

No problem. You will need to do this every time you create a subdomain with importbuddy. I havent found a way around it. I do have a ticket open, but havent heard anything back yet.
