Question for Tom

posted Sep 11, 2010 18:47:11 by Chris-Jarvis
Since you have several of these sites up and running I wanted to ask you a couple of questions.

I have my root domain and 50 subdomains built. I am seeing some decent traffic coming from the syndication. Probably about 100-200 visitors a day all total. The root was built about a week ago and the subdomains within the past week. How long before you start to see opt ins?

Thanks,
Chris

Does the form work? Sometimes the "submit" button goes South and most people just go away without trying contact you. They are not likely going fight to opt in unless you've got the Budweiser Girls waiting to meet and greet them on the other side.

If the submit button works and everything checks out - what about page load times? Your computer is all cached up so you can't tell.. go try a couple of strangers computers and see what happens. Permalink structure needs to begin with a numeric field before the post-title or that will slow your pages way down if your blog gets big enough. Stick with Wordpress Option 2 or 3 and ignore the Custom Option all Videos tell you to use. They are WRONG. See www.seobullshit.com for more details or go look at Matt Cutt's Blog - he uses option 2.

If that's all good, you know what people want from you in return for their email address, don't you? Lots and lots of value - perceived at least. Something worth taking the time to see what you have and opt in. What's the incentive? And let's not forget the Perry Belcher Buy Button as shown here: http://www.ez-1.net/sucks

I just noticed you said "question for Tom" -- OOOPS!! Would you believe me if I said I was his wife or his little elf or minion?

Well, Tom - Please grade my answer at the 11th grade level. It's been awhile! What's right and what's wrong?

I appreciate the answer and you were right! The button on my squeeze page was not working. I fixed it and verified it. I tested it when I built the site but as you said I guess it went south. Thanks for the help.

And thanks for the info on the permalinks. The pages are loading good. I learned a while ago to check out page load time on several computers and different browsers as they can vary.
