posted Sep 14, 2010 23:22:35 by Daniel Swindells
I installed too many extra plugins on my site and it was taking 30+ seconds to load. I tried removing them one by one but it still had a long load time. I'd also somehow accidentally upgraded Wordpress, which I remember you said might cause conflicts.

I decided to delete everything and start again because I'd only made a couple of sub domains, and few other changes, so it wouldn't take long. In any case I've made notes about everything on the course and wanted to use them to time the whole creation process for future reference.

So I went into Filezilla and deleted everything, deleted the subdomains and the MySQL database. Then followed the process again.

When I tried to use the ImportBuddy, I got the error message:

error when starting again with primary domain import
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'dani123_dani123'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/dani123/public_html/importbuddy.php on line 1005
ERROR: Unable to connect to database properly. Verify the database server name, user, password, and database name.
Migrating wp-config.php ... Done.

I googled it first, and it didn't yield any results in connection to ImportBuddy. I definitely have all privileged set for that user.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Might be worth deleting the mysql database and then create a new database and readd the user you created to the new database. Sounds like a database connection issue.

Oh I forgot to mention that I'd deleted the database and attempted this twice, first with a different user attached to a different database, secondly having recreated the same database and user name combination.

In both cases I get that message and the old 'error establishing database connection' message when I try and go to the domain.

Make sure the user has full access to the database. Then when running import buddy type in the database name, username and password by hand. Don't copy and paste. I've seen problems like this and there is an extra space at the end of one of the fields. So, don't copy and paste the info into importbuddy.

Also, you said you used filezilla to delete everything. Go to file manager and make sure everything is really gone.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just tested out all of them and got the same message :(

Are you choosing migrate to new server or to same server with importbuddy?

I'm following the instructions from the videos to migrate to a new server.

The error you are getting means either the database name, database user or password is incorrect.

At this point all I know to do is delete everything and start over. I would create a new user and add to a new database.

I've tried this several times now with different user names, always ensuring full privileges are set. Is it time to give up and have to buy a new domain name?

A new domain wouldn't help. Might be worth opening a ticket or posting in the support forum.
